Baby dinosaur cake

I've been lazy posting new cakes recently. Yep, I know it's been a long time.
I had a great opportunity to create baby dinosaur party themed desserts
for Connah's 2nd birthday.
Since I made his 1st Hoot themed party dessert last year,
I've had so many requests about Hoot cakes thanks to Connah:D

I'm always grateful to make birthday cakes every year for my clients..
It's so amazing that I can be able to celebrate someone's important moment
in his or her life  for a few years in a row.

The most wonderful thing is that I get to see the Connah's birthday party pictures!
How awesome!I love every single photos his mum sent me.
She prepared the beautiful dessert table for him
and also I enjoyed looking at cute cake pops her sister made..
(I wish I had one bite of it:D)

Happy 2nd birthday, Connah!

Snow Flake Cookies

Pink Snow Flake Cookies

The base cookie is shortbread which has very SHORT texture.lol
I love using shortbread as my sugar cookie base because I love the texture and lightness
and it has rich butter flavour I love the most.
All I want after baking it is a cup of coffee and one shortbread.

I live in Sydney so it is the winter in August..
The cookies are for the birthday baby girl,Chanel who were born in winter last year.

For someone who wants to know what I used for the snow flake pattern,
I piped it with royal icing and sprinkled white sand sugar on the top of the icing
and also one silver cashous in the middle.

Snow-like Cake pops!

Princess Party Dessert Table

Princess party dessert table for Gemma's 2nd birthday

I can't believe my daughter is 2 years old already!
Since I made my first sugar fondant cake for her 1st birthday,
I've been making lots of cupcakes and cakes... and waiting for her 2nd birhtday to come
so I can throw her lovely princess party.

My mother and twin sisters are visiting us
so it seems to be more meaningful moment for me.
They helped me preparing Gem's dessert table and food for the party. It was lots of work to make all different kinds of dessert but we had such a good time together.

Toy Story Dessert Table

Toy Story Party Dessert Table

I'd like to share Tori's dessert table for her son(Ethan)'s 1st birthday party.
After she picked up baked goodies, I had no idea how she was going to put them together.
I tried my best to keep her theme & colour.. so everything could go well with her plan.
When I saw pics of Ethan's Dessert Table she had organised, I was so excited!
She did an awesome job and the table looked very professional.
Thank you for lightening up my work, Tori. & Happy birthday, Ethan!
Special thanks to Phuong for great photograph.

Toy Story Cake

Toy Story Cake & Cupcakes & Cookies
Happy 1st Birthday, Ethan!

Edible Woodie! It took me 4-5 hours to make him with sugar..(except for time to dry!!)
It was quite a challenge but I'm so proud of this sugar woodie for Ethan!

I don't usually use edible pens ( but I have lots of colourful ones!)
This time, they were so handy and made woodie's shirt & vest awesome!!

[Recipes] Flower Sugar Cookies

Hello, everyone.
I've always tried to make cookies with cute decoration
since when I found out  bloggers posting about amazing cookie decoration.
It has been a few months since then.

I finally made sugar cookies and royal icing for decoration.
I was so excited about using royal icing!!
I used meringue powder for royal icing. It is so easy & simple to make.
You can always control the thickness of royal icing by adding water.

Sugar cookies is also simple to make.
There are lots of recipes for cookies.

I have this Christmas cookies recipe from 'Taste.com.au'
(about 24 cookies)

Ingredients
  • 125g butter, at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup (115g) caster sugar
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups (225g) self-raising flour
  • 1/2 cup (70g) custard powder
  • Silver and gold sparkling cachous, to decorate

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C. Line two baking trays with non-stick baking paper.
  2. Use an electric beater to beat the butter and sugar until pale and creamy.
  3. Beat in milk and vanilla extract. Fold in the flour and custard powder.
  4. Press the dough into a ball and wrap in plastic wrap.
  5. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to rest.
  6. Divide the dough into manageable portions.
  7. Roll out one portion on a sheet of non-stick baking paper to about 1cm thick.
  8. Use Christmas cookie cutters to cut shapes and place on the trays. Decorate with cachous.
  9. Bake for 10 minutes or until light golden.
  10. Cool for 5 minutes on the trays before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  11. Repeat with remaining dough.

If you have cute cookies cutters, you can simply use them &
decorate with anything you like.
You can make any cookies you like ginger cookies or chocolate cookies..etc.

I decorated with baby blue royal icing for the round bottom and added a sugar flower on the top.
You can also decorate with sprinkles or draw simple design with a piping bag.
I didn't use any piping bag for the blue round shape.
I used a spatula by adding a big drop of royal icing in the middle of the cookie and tapped it lightly
until I got the round clean shape and let it dry til firm.

Here is a royal icing recipe by Wilton.
If you make small batch of cookies like me, you can also halve the royal icing recipe.

You can make cookies for special occasions and
make them as a gift for friends and family.
Most of all, you can have fun making them! Get creative!
I had a lot of fun making my flower cookies.
I hope I can post more about cookies from now on.
